Create a Livable Outdoor Space by Adding a Deck

Outdoor livable space is a popular trend. You can set up an outdoor seating area, outdoor kitchen or outdoor dining space. This allows you to entertain guests outside or host a larger party than what your home can hold. This trend inspired my wife and I to build our own outdoor livable space. However, one of the biggest decisions we faced was what the base for our space would be. We could use concrete, lay pavers or construct a deck. After doing a lot of research, we decided on a deck. It was a challenging decision, but we are pleased with the outcome. In fact, we are so happy we decided to start this blog and help educate other people on decks and livable spaces. Learn the benefits, learn the downside, learn how to care for your and learn what kinds of wood are best for an outdoor deck.

4 Quick And Important Maintenance Tips For Your Garage Door

by Kelly Simmons

Most likely, your garage door is used daily and often more than just once or twice. This is why garage doors are so sensitive to breaking down and requiring expensive repairs at some point. To avoid this, you will want to follow these four quick and important maintenance tips you can do on your own:

  1. Lubricate the Moving Parts: The moving parts, such as the springs and the rollers, need to be lubricated regularly. This way, they move smoothly every time the garage door is opened or closed. This is going to help the garage door move fluidly enough that it is less likely to get stuck. If it does become stuck, it can lead to mechanical problems that will need to be repaired.
  2. Keep the Tracks Clean: The tracks need to be cleaned regularly, as well. Be sure that you take the time to check the tracks. If they appear dirty, you should clean them with a damp cloth. After you have cleaned them with a damp cloth, you should wipe them down with a dry cloth as well to remove loose dirt and debris. This way, the lubricated rollers can easily move along the tracks when the garage door is opened and closed.
  3. Replace the Weather Strip:  The weather strip along the bottom of your garage door does more than just keep the weather conditions outside, but it also performs as a barrier for the garage door when it shuts firmly on the ground. When the weather stripping is properly cushioned, it helps the garage door shut smoothly instead of slamming on the floor, which can cause damage to the springs. Be sure to replace the weather stripping whenever you notice that it has become worn. You can easily purchase a new weather stripping at your local home improvement store.
  4. Tighten Loose Bolts: Every once in a while, you should also be checking for loose bolts along the track. This is best to do when cleaning the tracks. If you notice that any are loose, you need to tighten them. This way, the track is properly aligned and does not cause the springs to come out of alignment sooner rather than later, which can be an expensive repair to fix.
