Create a Livable Outdoor Space by Adding a Deck

Outdoor livable space is a popular trend. You can set up an outdoor seating area, outdoor kitchen or outdoor dining space. This allows you to entertain guests outside or host a larger party than what your home can hold. This trend inspired my wife and I to build our own outdoor livable space. However, one of the biggest decisions we faced was what the base for our space would be. We could use concrete, lay pavers or construct a deck. After doing a lot of research, we decided on a deck. It was a challenging decision, but we are pleased with the outcome. In fact, we are so happy we decided to start this blog and help educate other people on decks and livable spaces. Learn the benefits, learn the downside, learn how to care for your and learn what kinds of wood are best for an outdoor deck.

2 Reasons To Get Your Asphalt Driveway Sealed

by Kelly Simmons

If you are going to have an asphalt driveway, you want to make sure that you are taking care of it. The better you take care of it, the longer it will last, and you will get a better return on your investment. One of the things that you can do is to get your driveway sealed on a regular basis.

Sealant

The sealant is a product that can just be rolled over your driveway. Imagine painting your driveway and you have a pretty good idea as to how the sealant will go on your driveway. You can do it yourself, or you could have a contractor who works with asphalt come and do the job for you. How often it needs to be done depends on all kinds of things, including the climate in your area, what kind of sealant you are using, and how much use your driveway gets. There are a lot of reasons to make sure that you are getting sealant applied to your driveway.

Degradation

Asphalt is a petroleum product. That puts it at risk of degradation by other petroleum products. The gas and oil from your car can drip onto your driveway. That will start to degrade the asphalt and break it down. That will lead to cracks and other problems with your driveway, which means you will have to patch or replace your driveway. If you get your driveway sealed, then you are going to be able to avoid that issue.

Freeze/Thaw

The freeze/thaw cycle can be brutal on your driveway. That's because of the way that water behaves when it turns into ice. Unlike other materials, water actually expands when it turns into ice. That means that any little crack or hole that the water gets into is going to get pushed just a little wider every time something in there freezes. It's generally not something that you can see overnight, but it will work against your driveway. Then, when the water thaws, it is able to trickle deeper into that crack, so when it freezes again, the entire situation will start over again.

If you have invested in an asphalt driveway for your home, you want to make sure that it lasts as long as possible. Getting your driveway sealed on a regular basis is the easiest way to make sure that happens. It will help to make sure that your driveway lasts for a long time.
